Breast Contouring Procedure

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift — also known as mastopexy — is an extremely effective breast contouring procedure that addresses the inevitable effects of gravity, breastfeeding, and aging. Following a breast lift, you will have an elevated and reshaped bust line that lends a beautiful new contour to your body. Some women undergo a breast lift with their breast augmentation procedure to enhance their results. At Quinn Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center, Dr. John Michael Quinn is highly experienced in performing a range of breast enhancement procedures to help you achieve your desired results. During your consultation for a breast lift Kansas City specialists at Quinn will answer any questions you may have and assess the options that are best for you.

About The Procedure

About Mastopexy

When breasts first begin to grow, they are located high on the chest wall, which is considered perky and youthful. However, due to factors such as age, weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding, genetics, or gravity, the breasts can begin to sag. This sagging of the breasts is known as ptosis. There are various degrees of breast ptosis, which is determined by the relation of the nipple-areola complex to the inframammary crease (natural breast fold). Using a special anchor incision technique, Dr. Quinn will lift the nipple-areola complex so that it is slightly higher than the inframammary crease. If the areola has become stretched or enlarged, he can also reduce its size. Finally, he will reshape the breast tissue for enhanced contour. A breast lift will not change the size of the breast. If a patient desires larger, lifted breasts, a breast augmentation can be performed in conjunction with a breast lift. Dr. Quinn is a board certified plastic surgeon who has been voted "Best Plastic Surgeon in Kansas City” by KC Magazine five years in a row. Customized Care

Degrees of Ptosis

There are varying degrees of ptosis, determined by the relation of the nipple-areola complex to the inframammary crease. The degree will help Dr. Quinn create an individualized surgical plan for your specific case.

Degree 1: The nipple-areola complex is level with the inframammary crease

Degree 2: The nipple-areola complex is located below the inframammary crease by 3 cm or less.

Degree 3: The nipple-areola complex is more than 3 cm below the inframammary crease.

Pseudoptosis: The nipple-areola complex is above the inframammary crease, but there is a substantial amount of tissue situated below the crease.

Ideal Candidates

Good Breast Lift Candidates

It is unusual for a woman to have perfectly uplifted, equal size breasts, no matter their age. There are factors though that can dramatically affect the breasts elevation moreso. Dr. Quinn often performs breast lifts on women who:

  • Have lost a significant amount of weight
  • Have breast-fed and are experiencing sagging
  • Are unhappy with the positioning of their areolas
  • Have experienced breast sagging with age

If you're a healthy woman who wants to address sagging breasts because of any other aforementioned reasons, a breast lift may be a good option for you. Future pregnancies and breastfeeding will affect results, so it is best to wait to get a breast lift until you are done having children. Women interested in larger breasts may be better suited for a breast augmentation. Contact Quinn Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center in Kansas City to request a consultation to find out what our Kansas City breast lift can do for you.

Technique

Mastopexy Technique We Perform

Dr. Quinn only performs breast lifts with an anchor pattern incision. He has found that this technique provides optimal results for his Kansas patients. This technique is performed using incisions around the areola, from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease, and along the breast crease. The resulting shape is similar to an anchor. This technique provides the most lift compared to other breast lift techniques.

Procedure

Breast Lift Surgery Procedure

Breast lift surgery takes between one and three hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Quinn will mark your breasts prior to surgery to provide accurate guidelines for incisions that will be made during surgery. Dr. Quinn then begins the procedure by making the incisions and removing any excess skin. At this point, the procedure may or may not include inserting breast implants to restore the breast to its original shape and fullness. This option will already have been decided during the consultation. The breast lift may involve moving and resizing the areolas. Dr. Quinn will reshape the breast tissue and then close the incisions with sutures.

An Expert, Experienced Consultation

Kansas City Breast Lift Consultation

Dr. Quinn requires all patients to come in for a consultation prior to booking their mastopexy surgery. The consultation is an important step of the breast lift process when the doctor can listen to your concerns and understand your goals for the surgery. Depending on what you hope to achieve, he may recommend a breast augmentation in addition to or as an alternative to a breast lift. Dr. Quinn will perform an examination in order to analyze your chest anatomy, but he also asks that patients get a mammogram prior to surgery.

This information will allow him to create a personalized surgical plan that will provide you with optimal results. Dr. Quinn will offer his expertise and answer any questions you may have. He will go over the breast lift procedure in depth, as well as preparation and recovery. However, please feel free to ask any other questions or voice any concerns that may arise. Many patients bring in a list of questions they have to the consultation.
