Increase Your Self-Confidence

About Breast Augmentation in Kansas City

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enlarge the size of a woman's breasts with the use of implants. Our Kansas City breast augmentation includes a myriad of surgical options, including the specifics of the implant composition, size and shape, as well as incision sites and placement of the implant in reference to the muscle. For many women, breast implants have helped to increase their self-confidence and inspire pride in their personal appearance. However, that doesn't mean that having an augmentation should not be seriously considered, discussed, and approached with care. Most importantly, to ensure that patients achieve their desired results they must choose an experienced and reputable breast augmentation surgeon in Kansas City with whom they feel comfortable, such as Dr. John Michael Quinn.

Ideal Candidates

Am I a Good Breast Augmentation Candidate?

Good candidates for Kansas City breast augmentation are women in good health who have reasonable expectations of the procedure outcome. A bust increase is guaranteed, but a rise in self-confidence is not; that has to come from within. Women who are done having children and breastfeeding are great candidates, but those who have sagging breasts or low nipple positioning may need a breast lift as well. Further candidates for breast augmentation include those wishing to correct asymmetry or improve a previous surgery's result. When it comes to breast augmentation Kansas City patients have many factors to think through prior to surgery, including:

  • Overall health
  • Reasons for considering surgery
  • Previous surgeries and their results
  • Financial feasibility
  • Medication intake
  • Family history

Implant Options

Breast Augmentation Implant Options

There are many different options to consider when wanting to undergo Kansas City breast augmentation surgery. That's what makes this procedure so popular! It is completely customizable to your aesthetic desires. But rest assured, you do not have to make their implant option decisions on your own. You will consult privately with Dr. Quinn about your specific surgical options during a private consultation. There you will get answers to any questions you may have, discuss safety and risks, and gain confidence in the fact that your surgery will be unique and handled in the best manner for you.

TYPE OF IMPLANT

At Quinn Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center we offer two types of implants: silicone and saline. Silicone implants are a silicone shell casing filled with semi-solid silicone gel. Mentor Memory Gel is our silicone implant of choice as we find they provide fantastic results for our patients. Saline implants are inserted as an empty (non-inflated) shell, and once in place they are then filled with a liquid saline solution to the desired size. Both breast implant composition are perfectly safe and will provide natural-looking results. Deciding which type of implant is right for you will depend on the breast size, shape, and feel that you're looking for. During your initial consultation, Dr. Quinn will explain the difference between these breast implants, and help you to decide which is right for you.

SIZE & SHAPE

Size is probably the most popular topic when it comes to breast augmentation. There is a large range of implant sizes available; Dr. Quinn will provide physical examples to help patients make an informed, educated decision. Implants can come in both round and natural teardrop shape. Round provides greater projection while teardrop gives a more anatomically similar slope. The one recommended for your case will be based on the size implant desired and body frame.

INCISION LOCATION

If you've started to do your research on breast augmentation and implants, you will be familiar with some of the terminology involved in this procedure. One option that will be discussed at the initial consultation is whether to make a transaxillary (underarm) incision, or an inframammary (breast fold) incision. A transaxillary incision is about 1-2 inches long, and is made in the patient's underarm where it is less visible. An inframammary incision is slightly larger and is made under the breast in the breast fold. Dr. Quinn will discuss the pros and cons for the incision site specifically suited for each individual case. Every effort will be made to ensure that the resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.

PLACEMENT OF IMPLANT

Another option in breast augmentation Kansas City patients can consider, is whether to place the breast implant above (sub-glandular) or below (sub-muscular) the muscle. Dr. Quinn typically recommends a sub-muscular placement, but it is important that every patient be aware of their options, as there are benefits to both sub-muscular and sub-glandular breast implant placement. Dr. Quinn will discuss the pros and cons of the two possible implant placement sites, and recommend the site that best meets the your needs Dr. Quinn uses the no touch technique, which means he never makes direct contact with the implant in order to ensure a safe, sterile operation.

A Smooth Surgery and Quick Recovery

Preparation

Properly preparing for your Kansas City breast augmentation surgery is an important step for a smooth surgery and quick recovery. You will be given instructions, such as arranging for someone to take you home after surgery, and what medications to avoid prior to surgery. Dr. Quinn will be able to provide more individualized preparation instructions after your consultation examination.

An Outpatient Procedure

The Surgery

Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia, meaning you will be released after surgery, under the care of a family member or friend. The procedure entails making small incisions to create pockets into which the breast implants are inserted. Once the breast implants are in place, the incisions are closed. The procedure typically takes an hour to complete, but can vary from patient to patient depending on the incision size, implant material and implant placement. Dr. Quinn does not place patients in a compression garment after surgery. The implant can drop quicker into the pocket with the natural help of gravity, which cannot happen if the breasts are compressed in a compression garment.

complementing body contouring procedures

Complementing Procedures

There are many complementing body contouring procedures we offer that go well with breast augmentation surgery. One of the most common procedure combinations is breast augmentation with a breast lift. Breast augmentation will increase size, but it cannot remedy extreme breast sagging. Dr. Quinn will remove excess breast skin to create a perky breast, followed by augmentation for fullness. Another popular surgical option is the mommy makeover. This is the clever name dubbed for body and breast procedure combinations such as liposuction, tummy tuck, breast lift, and/or breast augmentation for post pregnancy women. Many moms come to Dr. John Michael Quinn to enhance their post pregnancy bodies because he delivers spectacular results, keeping true to each woman's natural proportions.

Recovery

Kansas City breast augmentation patients are able to return home following their surgery, but will need to take around 3-5 days off from work. This time frame will be longer if your job requires heavy lifting but light activities can be resumed sooner. You will be instructed to move around during the initial postoperative days. This promotes good blood flow. Dr. Quinn will assign a few range of motion exercises to help slowly ease your body into adjusting; these should be started the day after surgery. More vigorous activity and heavy lifting can be continued after 3 weeks.

Breast Augmentation Results

Patients will notice an immediate increase in size, but good results can be seen just as soon as the implants settle in place. Final beautiful results can be enjoyed in about 3-5 months. Any incision scars will fade with time, but Dr. Quinn will advise you about the best care for your incisions to minimize the appearance of any scars. While breast augmentation cannot inherently increase the confidence of women, it sure does help! The majority of breast augmentation patients report a large spike in their self-esteem and body image, in turn enhancing quality of life for themselves.

Surgery Costs

Breast Augmentation Price

When it comes to breast augmentation cost Kansas City plastic surgeons are each entirely dependent on the implant specifics and your specific needs and desires. Dr. Quinn will be able to provide you with an estimation of costs after a consultation examination and a discussion about your cosmetic goals.

Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

Achieving a double D cup size looks different for everyone, but the exact amount depends on your starting breast size and body proportions. Your plastic surgeon will help determine the right implant size for your desired outcome during a consultation, ensuring your breast augmentation is right for you.

Most patients can increase their breast size by one to two cup sizes with implants, although larger increases are possible depending on the patient’s anatomy and aesthetic goals. During your consultation, we will discuss the most appropriate options for your desired size.

Each person is unique, and the answer to this question ultimately depends on a person’s frame and body proportions. The perception of "large" breasts varies from person to person.

The most common breast implant sizes range between 300-400 cc, which typically results in a full B or C cup. However, the best size for you depends on your body shape and desired outcome.

The most popular breast size among patients typically falls within the C to D cup range. This size offers a balance between enhancement and maintaining a natural look. Dr. Quinn does not go off of "cup size"; rather, he allows each woman to choose the Cubic Centimeters (CCs) she feels most confident and comfortable in.

Every surgeon offers different advice on the recovery process. Dr. Quinn asks patients who undergo breast augmentation to avoid wearing a bra or any compression garments for 3-6 months. Dr. Quinn and his staff will provide guidance on when it's safe based on your personal healing process and comfort level.
