COOLSCULPTING VS. LIPOSUCTION?

CoolSculpting and liposuction are both popular ways to reduce body fat and achieve your ideal body goal. Problem areas such as the flanks, thighs, and stomach can be difficult to slim through diet and exercise alone. It is important to note that neither treatment is meant to reduce large amounts of weight, but rather to tone, sculpt and define problem areas.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting technology was developed upon the fundamentals of cryolipolysis, the science of freezing fat. CoolSculpting is a fat removal treatment that applies this science to eliminate fat cells from a patient’s stomach, buttocks, thighs, back and other areas of the body.

CoolSculpting is a popular fat removal procedure because it does not require surgical extraction of any fat.

CoolSculpting treatments may take a little over an hour and do not require incisions, needles, anesthesias, sedatives or bandages. A patient receiving this treatment will be able to return to their regular schedule immediately. Just one CoolSculpting treatment will expose the unnecessary, stubborn fat to freezing temperatures. These cells will die with time and the body will naturally remove them in the following months. CoolSculpting is a good option for those with a busy lifestyle who do not want to undergo a surgery or a lengthy recovery period. Freeze your fat away with this simple procedure!

CoolSculpting was created by Zeltiq Aesthetics and became popular in the United States around 2011. Today, CoolSculpting techniques provide people with a non-invasive solution to their troublesome fat. A fat freeze treatment will slim you down and tone your body after a few treatments!

This fat freezing technique has many panels of different sizes that can be applied to various locations around the body, such as the stomach, thighs, buttocks, chin, neck, arms, flanks, chest, bra line, back, and calves.

COOLCORE ADVANTAGE AND ADVANTAGE PLUS

These applicators are most frequently used because they cover large areas of the body. Advantage Plus is a large applicator that is commonly applied to the abdomen, waist, hips and the male chest.

COOLFIT ADVANTAGE

This product was FDA-approved in 2014 and is most often used on the thighs. CoolSculpting thighs is a popular procedure because it helps our patients achieve a thigh gap.

COOLMINI

This is a small CoolSculpting applicator that is frequently used on the chin and neck to reduce a double chin. CoolSculpting double chins is another popular treatment because it helps individuals regain a defined jawline and improve the symmetry of their face.

COOLCURVE ADVANTAGE AND ADVANTAGE PLUS

These applicators are excellent for the curvier areas on the body such as the waist, abdomen, and hips.

COOLPETITE

This is a smaller CoolSculpting device that reshapes the bra line, arms, thighs, back and banana rolls (the rolls of fat that gather on the upper thigh below the buttocks).

CoolSculpting Procedure

The procedure lasts for about thirty to sixty minutes. Patients are able to lay down, rest and relax during their treatment. Some of our patients read while others watch movies. The CoolSculpting applicator that you and your physician decide on will be placed upon the treatment area and suctioned to the skin. The fat is pulled close to the CoolSculpting applicators with a suction-action. The isolated fat is then exposed to cold temperatures. The treatment should not cause discomfort but will numb the treated area, while the surrounding area is kept comfortable.

Patients also have the option of Dual sculpting. Dual sculpting is exactly what it sounds like, twice the CoolSculpting! This procedure may take longer than the regular appointment time, taking up to sixty minutes. This is a popular option because patients are able to resculpt two areas of their bodies for a comprehensive improvement.

CoolSculpting helps you achieve your desired appearance safely and effectively, with up to twenty-five percent of your stubborn fat being reduced. CoolSculpting is known to have little to no adverse effects other than bruising or discoloration that goes away within a few days.

When your procedure is complete, you may feel a slight pressure as the suction device is removed from your treatment area. This area will be gently massaged to restore feeling and help the surrounding tissue adjust to the introduction of colder tissue. Once completed, you can return to your regular activities. No recovery period is needed and you will just need to avoid strenuous activities for a couple of days. You may need multiple CoolSculpting treatments to obtain your desired appearance. In the weeks following your treatment, you will notice your body begin to shift as the treated cells are removed.

With CoolSculpting you can simply freeze fat off to obtain a toned, slim appearance!

Liposuction

This procedure takes about one to two hours and sometimes requires a local or general anesthesia, sedation, and small incisions.

Liposuction is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that also reduces stubborn fat stores that are resilient to exercise and dieting. Liposuction has been around since the 1970s and has had plenty of time to evolve. Today, there are many different types of liposuction techniques that implement all sorts of new technology. Each form of treatment offers its own set of benefits. One of the most noted benefits of liposuction is that it can be performed all over the body. Liposuction can be performed on the abdominal area, chest, neck, chin, waist, hips, knees, arms, back, thighs and buttocks.

Dr. Quinn performs liposuction procedures at an outpatient surgical facility. There are two forms of liposuction which he performs: suction-assisted liposuction, or SAL, and power-assisted liposuction, or PAL.

SUCTION-ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION

This is the traditional form of liposuction that uses a cannula (a thin hollow tube) and an aspirator (a suction device). This treatment is performed either under local or general anesthesia. A small incision is created in the predetermined area and the cannula, topped with an aspirator, is inserted under the skin. With a gentle back-and-forth movement, Dr. Quinn detaches fat cells from the surrounding tissue and extracts it with the aspirator. Once the desired amount of fat is removed, the incision is closed with sutures and a compression garment is applied to reduce swelling and help the newly sculpted area adjust to its new shape.

POWER-ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION

PAL is similar to suction-assisted liposuction, however, it implements a unique cannula. The cannula used in PAL is specifically designed to move on its own, providing more precise actions. Another added benefit is that it helps Dr. Quinn by improving his wrist movement. SAL requires Dr. Quinn to move his wrist for a long period of time. With power-assisted liposuction, he can use the cannula to move for him, focusing his energy on how the cannula is contouring your treatment area to achieve your optimal appearance. When the predetermined amount of fat has been removed with the aspirator device, the incisions will be closed and the patient sent home to recover.

Multiple areas can be treated with liposuction during a single procedure, this helps to re-sculpt a patient’s figure and rejuvenate their whole appearance.

Liposuction treatments require a few days of recovery and rest. Strenuous activities will need to be avoided to ensure the incisions are not stressed. Any discomfort will be controlled with a prescription from Dr. Quinn. Follow-up appointments will be necessary to ensure you are recovering well and a compression garment will be worn for some time to ensure your new contours are ideal.

Liposuction & Types of Fat

Liposuction is a great solution to that surface layer of fat, referred to as subcutaneous fat. However, deeper fat that is often associated with “beer guts” is mostly visceral fat that cannot be treated with lipo. This form of fat develops deep within the body around our internal organs. In large quantities, this is a very unhealthy fat that can lead to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and many other health complications. Stomach liposuction cannot be performed because of how deep visceral fat is, its position in relation to your organs and because it is a very hard fat. No surgical procedure can reduce this fat however it can be easily reduced with exercise.

Liposuction is a minimally invasive body sculpting procedure that often only needs to be done once and promotes long-lasting results. With a healthy lifestyle, patients can maintain their new, slim appearance!
